Live Simply Award at St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School
In response to Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to “work with generosity and tenderness in protecting this world which God has entrusted to us”. At St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School we are striving to achieve the Live Simply award. We aim to do this by living;
- simply
- in solidarity with people in poverty
- sustainably with creation
What is Laudato Si?
Laudato Si’ is an encyclical (a letter) written by Pope Francis in June 2015 and addressed not only to all Catholics, but to everyone in the world. Laudato Si’ – On the Care of our Common Home, is a real challenge to us all.
Pope Francis teaches us that a right relationship with the Earth and the whole of creation is as much part of the Church’s moral teaching as a right relationship with God and our neighbour.
Laudato Si’ urges us to change our lifestyle, to treat nature with respect, to be deeply aware of the interconnectedness of all God’s creation and to live simply and without wastefulness.
Our School Actions
Living Simply
• Our ‘Live Simply’ song:
Our School Choir and Band along with Miss Smith have written a school Live Simply song about our vision of the future that we want to live in. We have made pledges to live more simply such as;
Using reusable water bottles
Switching off lights
Not wasting water
Started Mini Vinnies to strengthen the school / parish links and provide a means for the children to support vulnerable people in our own parish
CAFOD assembly to learn about all of the work that CAFOD do around the world
Living in solidarity with people on poverty
We have set up at school foodbank that aims to help those who need it in our community
Planting a wild flower meadow at Windsor Gardens and around school
Sustainably with creation
Make bird feeders to hand around school
Make a bug hotel to encourage insects
Raise money for CAFOD and other charities
