Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) at St Matthew’s Primary School
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) is a key curriculum subject that equips young people with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to thrive in modern society. It supports pupils in staying healthy and safe, while helping them manage their academic, personal and social lives. Through core areas such as Health and Wellbeing, Relationships (including RSE), and Living in the Wider World, PSHE promotes physical and mental health, builds positive relationships, and develops awareness of careers, finances and responsible citizenship.
We also incorporate Philosophy for Children (P4C), an approach that encourages pupils to think critically, ask meaningful questions and engage in thoughtful discussion. Through guided enquiry and dialogue, P4C helps children develop reasoning, communication and reflection skills, supporting their ability to form and express their own ideas with confidence.

Useful Resources
PSHE Association is the main national body for PSHE in the UK. It provides curriculum guidance, parent information, and sample resources. Schools often base their schemes on it, so it’s the most reliable reference for understanding what children are taught and why.
